The labor market, production and management in wood-related sectors were the focus of a seminar within the Good Wood project.

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the third national seminar of the Good Wood project. The project, aimed at facilitating social dialogue in the wood and wood processing sectors, will end by the end of 2020 and has already achieved useful results for companies and sector organizations in the wood sector. The promotion of circular economy activities is also part of the project. The theme of the seminar was "The labor market, production and management in sectors related to wood. Challenges in 2020". Asen Angelov, expert, explained the peculiarities of union negotiations and the labor market in the sectors related to wood. He pointed out that these have a certain occupancy capacity which has been achieved. Specific activities in cutting and woodworking require human strength. Some mechanization has been applied in these sectors in Bulgaria, but they have been poorly automated. The challenges for the labor market in the current difficult year were also discussed. Participants at the event - representatives of employers, trade unions and companies in the sector - discussed the expected changes in the woodworking sector. They mainly refer to the need to promote greener technologies, the reuse of materials and the reworking of used products in order to achieve a circular effect. Last but not least, the new skills that employers and employees need to prepare and promote in order to bring about a gradual change in the logging and woodworking sectors were also discussed.
