Final conference

CEI-Bois, the European Confederation of Wood Industries, hosted the final online conference of the Good Wood project, funded by the European Union.
The Good Wood project aimed to promote social dialogue for the sustainable development of the wood sector, carrying out workshops, seminars, study visits involving the social partners in the project countries (Italy, Portugal and Bulgaria). At the same time, the project partners carried out a research that was officially presented during the event by the G. Tagliacarne research Center.
The Conference was opened by the President of CEI-Bois Mr Ek who confirmed the commitment of CEI-Bois to the main objective of this project, the "favoring the transition of the woodworking sector towards greater environmental sustainability through, between the other things, the social dialogue between employers and workers. This is more important than ever, as industry and the entire economy are looking for ways to a sustainable recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. "
The event was followed by a keynote speech on the EU's Green Deal and the Implications of the Woodworking Industries by Jeremy Wall of DG GROW (Unit C-2: Resource and Raw Materials Efficiency).
The final Conference was dedicated to the presentation of the results of the project activities. Maurizio Casasco, President of Confapi declared: "The Good Wood project that Confapi and all partners have carried out with commitment and passion, involving European, national and local stakeholders, aimed at enhancing and strengthening social dialogue as a tool for facilitate the transition towards green and circular economy objectives of companies in the wood and furniture sector. The current historical moment requires extraordinary and urgent measures from the European Union, which should consider the full involvement of all actors, including employers and trade unions. Together with the community objectives, the project aimed to train and inform the actors involved, with particular attention to new technologies to encourage innovation both in production processes and in products, also through the retraining of employees in the wood-furniture sector ".
